Fiji Football Run
This year the Rose-Hulman and Hanover College chapters of The Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta (commonly known as FIJI) will collaborate in conducting the seventh annual FIJI Football Run for the United Service Organizations (USO). The Football Run, which was the original idea of the Virginia Tech and University of Virginia Chapters, takes place on September 15th and 16th. Over the course of 24 hours leading up to the Rose-Hulman vs Hanover Hall of Fame football game, brothers from each chapter will literally run the game ball 150 miles from Hanover to Terre Haute, Indiana. This event raises funds from local business and donors around the country for the USO. The USO strengthens America's military service members by keeping them connected to family, home and country, through their service to the nation.
The run will travel through the counties of Vigo, Clay, Owen, Monroe, Lawrence, Jackson, Washington, Scott and Jefferson. The run will pass through the communities of Terre Haute, Riley, Cory, Bowling Green, Spencer, Ellettsville, Bloomington, Brownstown, Austin and Hanover.
Members of both chapters will run in groups of two or more during the scheduled route. Individuals in the group will run a varying number of miles depending on their abilities. They will be accompanied by a police vehicle.
This year our goal is to raise $25,000 for the USO. Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and Hanover College both belong to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Other members of the HCAC include Anderson University, Bluffton University, Defiance College, Earlham College, Franklin College, Manchester College, College of Mount St. Joseph, and Transylvania University.
